Gather Together: Celebrating Matariki

A time to reflect, reconnect, and gather together.
June 22, 2026
What is Matariki?

Matariki marks the Māori New Year in Aotearoa New Zealand. It begins with the appearance of the Matariki star cluster in the winter sky and is a time to reflect on the year that has been, celebrate the present, and look ahead to the future.

For generations, Matariki has brought people together to remember loved ones, give thanks for what they have, and reconnect with the people and places that matter most.

Today, it remains one of New Zealand's most meaningful celebrations, a moment to pause and appreciate life's simple pleasures.

Here is a great video to help explain it.

Our Connection to Marlborough

Here in Marlborough, where Tiraki is grown and made, the changing seasons shape everything we do.

Winter is a quieter time in the vineyard. The vines rest, the days shorten, and we take a moment to reflect on the vintage that has passed and the season ahead.

Matariki reminds us of our connection to the land, the rhythms of nature, and the people who share the journey with us. It is a time of gratitude, for the land beneath our feet, for the food on our tables, and for the moments that bring us together.

Gather Together

This year's theme, Matariki Herenga Waka – For Everyone, celebrates belonging, connection, and coming together.

And that's something we believe is universal.

Whether you're sharing a meal with loved ones, catching up with old friends, or simply enjoying a moment around the table, you're already taking part in the spirit of Matariki.

So tonight, we invite you to slow down.

Raise a glass.

Share a story.

Enjoy good food, good company, and the simple pleasure of being together.

From Marlborough, New Zealand, to wherever you are,

Gather Together.

Happy Matariki.

From our whānau to yours.
